Which calendar should two UK teams use for a shared deadline?
Write down each team’s working calendar, then find the dates when the required people and provider are all available. GOV.UK lists separate calendars for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. On 4 January 2027, Scotland has the substitute holiday for 2 January; England and Wales and Northern Ireland do not list that date as a bank holiday. A result for one nation does not establish joint availability.

Assume both teams work Monday to Friday, exclude their listed bank holidays and have no extra closures. Counting both endpoints gives three eligible dates for England and Wales or Northern Ireland, two for Scotland, and two shared dates: 31 December and 5 January. If an English team prepares a file on 4 January and needs Scottish approval, the next assumed approval date is 5 January. A provider requiring one further working day after approval would then complete on 6 January, provided its own calendar and cut-off permit it. Frequently asked questions
How does this change the Christmas 2026 handover example?
For completion on 29 December, a two-working-day provider that excludes handover day can count 24 and 29 December after handover on 23 December. If it also closes on 24 December, handover moves to 22 December so 23 and 29 can count. A separate preceding approval day is 22 or 21 December respectively. These assumptions still need provider confirmation.
